KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Public Works is confident that the annual trade volume at the newly refurbished Aqina Port would surge to 3 million tons by the year 2018.

According to the officials at the MoPW, despite the fact that the railway link at Aqina has recently been established, other measures have been taken for the development of commercial activities at the port to boost trade.

On Monday Mahmood Baligh, Minister of Public Works noted that efforts are made to develop railway networks in the north, south, east and western corridors of the country. He estimated that trade volume via this port would jump from 1 million tons in the year 2017 to 3 million tons by the year 2018.

He added that if Agina port’s railway link is extended to Andkhoi and Mazar-e-Sharif, export and import of goods can increase 5 times. He vowed that Afghanistan will soon be connected to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Iran and China via railway tracks.
