Top officials blamed for interfering in politics

19/03/2018

KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Monday blamed top government officials for interfering in parliamentary affairs.

Mohammad Naeem Lalay, member of the house, said on the occasion that the finance minister Eklil Hakimi, secretary of the High Peace Council, Akram Khpalwak, and head of the National Directorate of Security, Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai, have interfered in the election for the WJ’s administrative board. He went on to claim these officials wished to help succeed their candidates of choice.

The WJ members urged the government officials to focus on their actual duties rather than engaging in ‘conspiracies’.

Arif Rehmani, another member of the house, asserted that the government officials have ‘forgotten’ their primary tasks. He said the Taliban, pro-Daesh rebels and the Haqqani Network are spreading hatred in the country by attacking mosques, schools and universities while the officials are occupied with thoughts about political wrangling. He referred to the presence of NDS chief in a government committee looking to resolve political standoff between the Presidential Palace and the unseated governor of Balkh province, Atta Mohammad Noor.

The HPC secretary Akram Khpalwak refrained from commenting on the allegations levelled against him by the WJ members. Salam Watandar tried to have the views of Eklil Hakimi and Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai, but to no avail.
