KABUL (SW) – Following the sixth round of talks between the U.S and Taliban in Qatar, interactions between European leaders and the insurgents have increased in the Qatari capital.
Suhail Shaheen, spokesman for the Taliban’s Qatar office, announced in a tweet on Tuesday that the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Roland Kobia, has met Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the insurgents’ head of political office. “Discussed the current situation of Afghanistan, negotiations with the United States, prevention of civilian casualties & humanitarian aid with the EU Special Envoy,” Taliban said in a statement.
When contacted, Syed Akbar Aagha, a former Taliban-era official, said it is likely that representatives from Germany would attend next round of talks in Qatar.
Analyst on political affairs, Waheed Mujda, said in this connection that this meeting between the Taliban leader and the senior EU envoy would help with peace in Afghanistan.
