KABUL (SW): The National Directorate for Security (NDS) claimed to have killed al-Qaeda’s top leader Omar Khitab also known as Omar Mansour.
In a statement issued today, the NDS said Omar Khitab, and 80 other fighters of the militant group were killed in joint operations carried out by the Afghan and the Resolute Support (RS) forces in Ghazni, Paktia and Zabul provinces.
It added that after Asim Omar, the leader of this group (al-Qaeeda), Omar Khitab was the most important leaders of al-Qaeeda in the Indian subcontinent, and the most high-profile leader of this group so far killed in Afghanistan.
The NDS has claimed 27 members of this group have been arrested and five hideouts destroyed. The group has been blamed for directly collaborating with the Taliban against the Afghan government and international forces since 2015, particularly in training the Taliban on the use of heavy arms, rocket launching and night raids.
The NDS statement added that among those killed in these raids included Qasim also known as Khurum Kiyani, Hassan Hamza, Junaid and Mustafa. A total of 3 Punjabi and two local Taliban militants are also reported killed.
