GARDEZ (SW): Afghanistan has received millions of dollars in aid for education over the past 14 years but time and again certain facts on the ground prove much of the aid money has gone wasted.
In one such incident uncovered by Salam Watandar, three districts in south eastern Paktia province have only one high-school to share. Residents of Gerda Serai, Shwak and Wuza Zadran districts blame the government for not providing them with enough facilities to study.
The locals say the only high school in these districts has failed to produce a single high-school graduate in the past 14 years.
Qadir Khan, a local elder in Shwak told Salam Watandar these districts have been neglected over the years. Haji Bangi, member of the local council in Gerda Serai district expressed similar views. He noted that despite relative peace, the government seemed not willing to launch development projects here.
Abdul Wali Sahe, deputy governor of the province said in this regard that extra attention would be paid to these deprived districts in the future. “We have had discussions with the locals, the government would pay extra attention to education, peace and reconstruction” he said.
