KABUL (SW) – The National Environment Protection Agency and the Ministry of Interior have jointly confiscated up to 2385 smoke emitting vehicles in Kabul during the ongoing drive.
Shah Zaman Maiwandi, head of the NEPA, told a presser that during the winter season, people have been sensitized about the environment through up to 2000 Friday sermons in different mosques. He added during the past month-and-half 124 public bathrooms, 287 wedding halls, 9 swimming pools, three townships, 7 hospitals, 387 barbers’ shops and 47 high-rise buildings have been monitored.
He added up to 157 of these have been closed down, 320 have been issued warnings and 181 have been monitored again.
Shah Wali Safi, deputy minister at the MoI, told the joint presser that over 2000 vehicles emitting smoke have been confiscated over charges of spreading pollution. The NEPA officials vowed soon a call would be issued for public campaign against pollution in the city.
