Thousands of nomad children deprived of education

MAIMANA (SW) – Thousands of children from the nomad community in Faryab are deprived of education.

Janat Gul, a community elder of the Faryab nomads, told Salam Watandar thousands of children of this community in the Qarmqul, Dawlat Abad, Sheren Tagab, Almaar, Qaisar, Ghormach, Pashtunkot and Khwaja Sabz Post are deprived of the opportunity to go and study at schools. He said not a single school is available to help teach these children here.

He demanded the government to help build schools for the nomad community children at the earliest priority.

Commenting on this, Haji Assadullah, former head of the nomad community in Faryab, told SW some 22,000 families of the nomad community live in eight districts of Faryab province. He confirmed this community is deprived of education and health services.

When contacted, the director for tribal and border affairs, Arif Gohrak, said the raging insecurity and armed clashes in these areas are one of the main reasons behind this issue. He vowed 2 schools and 2 hostels dedicated for the nomad community would soon be built here. He said since the nomads are not stationed at one particular location, they are not provided with adequate services.
