KABUL (SW): Officials at the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations (MoRR) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Sunday thousands of displaced families are in dire need of help.

The MoRR and NDMA officials held a joint press conference here on Sunday.

Wais Ahmad Barmak, minister of state for NDMA, said 163,371 families have been displaced throughout the country. He added a large number of these displaced families have returned home, but many are still displaced in some 11 provinces.

“137,820 families have been assisted, but 52,125 are still in need of help”, added Barmak.

Fazl Ahmad Azimi, deputy director for planning and policy at the MoRR, said this ministry has assisted a number of needy families with cooperation of national and international aid agencies. Azimi emphasized some 210 thousand families who have either repatriated from neighboring countries or have been internally displaced, are in desperate need of help.

Speakers at the press conference highlighted the urgency in this regard considering the harsh winter.
