Thousands of acres of land reclaimed in Kandahar

11/01/2018

KANDAHAR (SW): The Kanadahar Independent Land Authority (KILA) has claimed it has reclaimed more than 112 thousand acres of land out of 387 thousand acres seized land  since 2009.

Norullah Noori, the head of KILA, said at a news conference on Thursday that parts of state land in many districts of Kandahar province have been usurped, and KILA has been able to take more than 112 thousand acres back with the help of Kandahar police.

A number of Kandahar residents have hailed the move, however, they were suspicious of this process. They demanded that all the usurped land should be taken back by the government.

Abdullah Kakar, a Kandahar resident, said the government should take the usurped land back from the powerful people. Aziz Ahmad, another Kandahar resident, said that recovering the usurped land is a good plan by the government, and people want the land to be distributed among the poor.

Officials at the KILA told Salam Watandar that no one is allowed to usurp the state property, and the process of reclaiming the land is ongoing. According to them, the recaptured land has been allocated for the construction of homes for teachers and judicial compounds in 8 districts of this province.
