KABUL (SW): Officials of the Capital Region Independent Development Authority (CRIDA) said that as part of the second job creation plan in the Kabul River’s Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project, thousand jobs have been created for the residence of Kabul.

For years, Kabul’s River has been buried with trash. The smell of trash and sinking in this river is very annoying for the pedestrians and viators. But the Capital City Development Authority has just begun the Cleaning Project of this River.

For the moment, 6.5 millions USD is set aside for the completion of this project and part of this money will be paid from the government budget and the remaining will be paid by United States Agency for International Development or USAID.

Ilham Omar Hotaki, Director General of the CRIDA said “by implementing this project on one hand, the Kabul River will be cleaned and, on the other hand, job opportunities will be created for some residence of the Capital”.

According to Mr. Hotaki, about 70% of the first phase of the Cleaning of Kabul River from Artal Bridge to Abdul Haq square has been completed, and the next phase will begin soon.

Nearly 800 workers are busy cleaning the river in one part of this project and 200 people in the other part which totals a thousand workers who are working in the Cleaning Project of Kabul River. These are the people who are the direct beneficiaries of this Project, and if their families are taken into consideration, more than thousands of people are the indirect beneficiaries.

Mr. Hotaki added that these workers including men and women received 400 AF per day.  Some Kabul residence while welcoming the Cleaning Project of Kabul River, asked the fellow citizens to be serious in keeping Kabul especially the Kabul River clean.

Kabul River originates from Onai Valley in Paghman and flows to the east of the city.
