KABUL (SW): Officials at Breshna (Afghan Power Generating Company) said that by generating 200 megawatts more of electricity within a month, the load-shedding problem in Kabul during the winter will be reduced.

According to them, out of 200 megawatts, 140 megawatts will be provided by setting up two thermal power plants in Kabul, 10 megawatts will be provided by saving energy consumption in public and private offices, and 50 megawatts will be supplied with energy imports from Turkmenistan.

Amanullah Ghalib, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Breshna; today at a news conference in Kabul also said that within a month, they will be introducing a new system which makes it easy to measure the exact amount of electricity usage and will provide the consumers with electricity bills.

The CEO of Breshna said that with the visit of President Ashraf Ghani to Uzbekistan, the import price of electricity from this country will decrease. Mr. Ghalib said next month in Reka meeting in Uzbekistan; a trilateral agreement between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan will be signed and according to which 200 megawatts of electricity will be transmitted through Afghanistan to Pakistan, and Afghanistan will receive $200 million annually from this agreement.

The CEO of Breshna said that a number of government departments, and powerful people still owe nearly 11 billion Afghani to the company, and for the payment of this money to Breshna, a committee representing all the ministries has been created.

Mr. Ghalib added that in the next two months, the National Electricity Network will also be activated in provinces of Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Logar, and Paktia.

Deputy Minister Finance/Wealth, Mr. Mohammad Aqa Kohistani, who was also present at the news conference, said that the Breshna Company with the budget and the resources it has, must meet the needs of the people and provide for it.

The interruption of electricity (load-shedding) has been one of the serious problems of residents of Kabul with the coming of winter each year but Breshan has assured that this will not be a problem this year.
