The U.S. and Taliban yet to reach a deal

KABUL (SW) – The U.S. and Taliban concluded 8th round of talks in the Qatari capital, Doha earlier this week.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, the Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman Suhail Shaheen said these talks were centered on a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan. He added both sides are busy in consultation with their respective leadership over this timetable. Shaheen said the two sides would decide if further consultations are needed or a final decisions should be made.

According to the Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman up to 80 per cent of the work has been done for the proposed peace deal.

In the meantime, political analyst Akram Arifi said agreement is yet to be reached on intra-Afghan talks and future government arrangement.
