MONITORING (SW) – The U.S. and Taliban concluded 8th round of talks for peace in Afghanistan in the Qatari capital, Doha on Monday.
Without further details, the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed said both sides agreed to consult their respective leaderships for next steps. He said the negotiations were wrapped up at 02:30am (Doha time) between both negotiation teams following 'continuous, tedious and effective' work.
A day earlier, the top U.S. peace negotiator expressed hope this is the last Eid where Afghanistan is at war. 'I know Afghans yearn for peace. We stand with them and are working hard toward a lasting & honorable peace agreement and a sovereign Afghanistan which poses no threat to any other country', Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, tweeted.
This round of talks began in Doha two weeks ago.
