The Taliban overrun Ghormach in Faryab

MAIMANA (SW): A security source on conditions of anonymity told Salam Watandar that the administration building and police headquarters of Ghormach district in Faryab province have fallen to the Taliban in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to the source, fighting is still going on between the Afghan National Police (ANP) and the Taliban  while the Afghan National Army is holding a base in the main market of the district. The source could not give exact numbers of casualties.

Meanwhile, authorities in Ghor have said that the Taliban are trying to take over Shahrak and Dolina districts of the province. The authorities claim that 150 Taliban insurgents are stationed in nearby villages since past week. Mohammad Kabiri, chief of Shahrak district, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have asked people to help them in taking over the the district. “Taliban have created a shadow district government in Farahroad area of the district, and are stopping children from attending schools”, added Kabiri.
