SAR-I-PUL (SW) – The Taliban rebels killed 21 security forces in late-night assault on Sayad district in Sar-i-Pul province, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
Noor Mohammad Rehmani, chairman for the provincial council, told Salam Watandar the district might fell to the rebels if additional troops are not sent for the rescue immediately.
The spokesman for the provincial governor, Zabihullah Amani, has confirmed reports about the Taliban’s attack on the Sayad district of the province. He said the rebels are aiming to overrun areas having petroleum reserves. Without confirming the death toll, he said both sides have sustained heavy casualties in these clashes.
A well-placed source at the public hospital in Sar-i-Pul informed SW that 21 dead bodies of the security forces and 23 wounded security forces have been brought to the hospital. The source said among the dead include two senior provincial security figures.
The Taliban have not commented on this so far.
