KABUL (SW) – CEO Abdullah Abdullah has said the Taliban are not serious about peace and are only seeking privileges.
He said this addressing the council of ministers here on Monday. Abdullah said all efforts for bringing peace to Afghanistan are welcomed, but all such moves should ensure to safeguard the gains of the past years, the Constitution and sacrifices of the Afghan security forces.
Abdullah stressed there was a need for national unity for peace, and efforts should also be expedited for regional and international consensus. He categorically said any group, Taliban or Daesh, standing against the system are enemies of Afghanistan.
He said the Taliban have not presented themselves for genuine peace talks, and paying sacrifice for peace does not mean surrendering the peoples’ aspirations.
This comes as second round of talks between the U.S. and the Taliban would commence in Doha, Qatar later this month. Last week, a conference was held in Moscow attended by the Taliban and a number of Afghan politicians excluding Kabul government officials.
The Taliban have shown no signs of willingness to talk to the Afghan officials.
