KABUL (SW): National Environmental Protection Agency Afghanistan – NEPA and the Ministry of Public Health have launched a two-day conference in Kabul, titled “Effects of Pollution on Public Health”, aimed at examining the effects of air pollution on health and the environment and finding a solution to prevent further damage.
Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Canada, Shinkai Karokhail said the air pollution is like a silent tsunami, which the residents of Afghanistan still do not know about it.
Excessive population density and non-planned expansion of populations in the cities, unsustainable use of natural resources, consumption of low-grade fuel, increased number of worn-out vehicles, and the lack of urban canalization are factors that intensify this hushed tsunami, Shinkai Karokhail added.
The NEPA officials said such conferences will help us take better measures to prevent damage to the environment in which we are living.
