HERAT CITY (SW): Abdul Malik Katibi, the provincial director of Afghanistan Independent Land Authority (ARAZI), in a press conference in Herat on Wednesday, talking about Herat’s AILA (ARAZI) inability to stand against land grabbers said he has been threatened several times by the land grabbers.

Although, he did not mention any names, but lamented that these land grabbers are supported by government officials, parliamentarians, and influential persons.

Jilani Farhad, the provincial governor’s spokesman, accepting the short comings in combating land grabbing assured that the provincial administration is trying level best to retake the usurped lands.

The acting director of provincial chapter of AILA (ARAZI) reported that thousands of acres of lands have been retaken by the government from less powerful land grabbers, but more than 64 thousand acres of land still remain illegally under more powerful people and this directorate is unable to retake these government lands.

According to these officials, since 1 year, 2 hundred cases of land grabbing have been dispatched for the prosecution to the judiciary.

Last year former Herat Municipality officials had stated that the Municipality had discovered that government lands were being usurped by land grabbers under the pretext of quota for cemeteries.
