GHOR (SW): The Dehkada library was inaugurated today (Thursday) with the presence of local authorities, youth and teachers in the district of Lal and Sar-e Jungle.
Today, at the opening ceremony of the library, Najibullah Nasiri, a member of the book collection campaign said that they have managed to collect more than 7000 books in two rounds of the campaign and have received 300,000 AFN as donations from individuals and various institutions.
Nasiri said the campaign was a success and informed that many people have promised to cooperate with the Dehkada library, which is why they have decided to start a book collection and library establishment campaign for several other villages in the country.
Nasiri added that the goal of opening such libraries is to raise awareness among the people to institutionalize a culture of study and volunteerism in the country.
Azizullah Mehdi, another member of the book collection campaign said the Lal and Sar-e Jungle district needed a well-equipped library. According to him, most people in Lal and Sar-e Jungle district are interested in studying and receiving education, however, the lack of libraries and educational resources compelled most students and young people to travel to Kabul and Herat provinces to have access to books and study materials which imposed financial burdens and security risks to them.
Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesperson for the governor of Ghor expressed satisfaction with the opening of this library and said that opening a library and the availability of the scientific resources can help grow the culture of reading and study among the public and prevent violence.
The book collection campaign to establish a library in the district of Lal and Sar-e Jungle in Ghor province was started with the slogan of “donation of a book is the donation of knowledge” on November 2017.
