The end of the 22-year rule of Germany; the Orange Tulips win UEFA Women’s Cup

07/08/2017

ENSCHEDE-KABUL (SW): The Netherlands won their first major women's international tournament by 4-2 goals over Denmark in the Euro 2017 final on home soil.

This is the first time that the Dutch women's football (soccer) team won the finals against their opponent with more than 28,000 spectators in the stadium.

The best performance of this team had been to climb the European Women's Champions League semi-finals in 2009.

In the first place, the likelihood of winning the finals by the team was very low, but with the elimination of France and Germany, the defending champions and using support from supporters, the Netherlands’ success was achieved. The Dutch women won the tournament in all their matches and ended up in the finals beating Britain in the semi-finals.

The Netherlands won in each of its six games in Euro 2017. It is the fourth country to win the European Women's Cup putting an end to the 22-year German winning streak.
