The child soldiers in the ranks of Daesh

02/08/2018

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Hundreds of pro-Daesh rebels, including women and children, surrendered to the government forces in Jawzjan on Wednesday.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, the child soldiers in the ranks of the militants said they joined Daesh against ‘injustices’ by the government and the Taliban, and to make ends meet. One of them is Babur, a minor boy with long hair wearing military shoes. He was tasked to attract and train children into the ranks of Daesh. Babur said he joined Daesh without informing his parents once he heard the group was recruiting in Jawzjan, and also paying money. He informed foreigners are present among the ranks of the group who were actively preaching and training.

Dollars were widely circulating in the area, Babur said, adding the militants cut hands of those found guilty of theft while non-believers were beheaded.

13-year-old Ahmad was another child solider in the ranks of the group. Ahmad said his brother enrolled him in the ranks of Daesh on the pretext of enrolling him in a religious school, and fighting against the Taliban and the government. He said local and foreign women were training the child soliders.

It was also informed some children were ‘sold’ to Daesh on the pretext of migrating them to Turkey and Iran.
