KABUL (SW):  The terrorists would not be allowed to undermine the stability of the region and the world, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said in a message on Monday in a clear reference to new Taliban leader’s remarks to continue fighting.

The Presidential Palace released the message Monday afternoon. On Sunday, President Ghani spoke to high-ranking government officials about emerging situation following the confirmation of Mullah Omar, former Taliban Supreme leader’s death.

The President is in Germany for medical treatment for his injured foot.

Ghai said in his new message Afghanistan is blessed with natural wealth but faces numerous internal and external challenges.  “As we get closer to the salvation of the region (from terrorism), we should double our efforts with regional and international cooperation to move hundreds of millions of people from poverty to prosperity”, he said.

Two days ago, the new Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor released a long audio message asking his followers not to pay attention to rumours spread. "We should work to preserve our unity, division in our ranks will only please our enemies, and cause further problems for us," he said.

Mansoor, who has been profiled a more pro-peace militant but his latest message was rather too strong for some observers. “Our goal and slogan is to implement the Sharia and an bring an Islamic system, our jihad will continue until this is done”, he vowed.

On Sunday, Ghani conferred with his power sharing Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and other officials about the changing dynamics of Taliban movement among other issues. “The government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan pronounces Taliban and other anti-government rebels as the armed opposition and would deal with them likewise”, the Palace said.
