KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Assadullah Omarkheyl, Governor of northern Kunduz province said on Saturday that a madrasa (seminary) which trained militants for suicide attacks and IED explosions, has been exposed in Dasht-e-Archi district in the province.

According to the local officials, this madrassa has been preaching fanaticism since a year now, and it kept urging youth across the country to join it. The governor said that security forces learnt about this madrassa a week ago. Before it turned out to be a terrorist center, there were assumptions that only religious subjects are taught there.

The governor added that nearly 300 students were busy studying in the madrassa. It was led by Mawlawi Janat Gul, one of the top militant leader and Mullah Salam, Taliban’s shadow governor for Kunduz. Apart from these two men, one of Pakistan’s spy called Omran, an alleged ISI agent, was providing training here for IED explosions. It is said that Omran recently left Afghanistan for Pakistan since the security situation worsened in the province.

Recently, four young students aged between 15 and 17 were arrested by the security forces. These four youngsters, who had learnt basics of suicide attack in a madrasa near Qara Bagh district in Kabul, were supposed to join the madrassa in Dasht-e-Archi to share their expertise with the students there.

Mohammad Omar Safi, former governor of Kunduz, last year unearthed to the growing influence of extremism in Kunduz, and pointed out that Dasht-e-Archi district has changed into a terrorist training centere by Taliban, Jandullah and Daehsh.

Local officials believe that 80 percent of Dasht-e-Archi district is under the Taliban’s influence
