MONITORING (SW) – The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted Resolution 2543 extending mandate for the UN Assistance Mission in the country.
Afghanistan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations has said that the UN Security Council has extended UNAMA's mission in Afghanistan for another year. “@UNAMAnews 's mandate for an additional year. We thank Members of the Council, & particularly the co-penholders, @GermanyUN & @indonesiaunny for the comprehensive adopted text which will strongly support the UN's work in AFG”, tweeted the Afghan mission.
Adeleh Raz, Afghanistan's Permanent Representative has expressed hope that the peace talks will lead to an end to the war and a dignified peace. She stressed that the people of Afghanistan want a peace in which the fundamental rights of citizens, the republic, freedom of expression, the achievements of the last two decades are preserved.
UNAMA's mission in Afghanistan has been extended after Afghanistan was elected to the UN Commission on the Status of Women for a four-year term (2025-2021) yesterday. This is the first time Afghanistan has joined the commission since Afghanistan joined the United Nations.
