SAR-I-PUL (SW) – At least ten people, including civilians, got killed in Sar-i-Pul province following clashes between police and a local militia commander.
According to reports, the clashes erupted when the local militia leader, Mawlawi Mehdi, wished to disrupt an electoral meeting organized by a Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidate.
Assadullah Khuram, member of the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar that the clashes are still underway in the Balkhab district.
Abdul Qayum Baqizay, provincial police chief, has confirmed the incident. He charged the militia leader for causing security troubles in the province.
