KABUL (SW): The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) has said based on their findings the government seems not willing to hold the district council and parliamentary elections this year.
Naim Ayubzada, the director of TEFA, said the National Unity Government (NUG) does not have the political will to hold elections this year. “If these elections are not held on time, the country will face political crisis”, told Ayubzada to a presser.
The TEFA director also blamed the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) as the biggest hurdle for delaying holding the elections. He added that the budged for Independent Election Commission (IEC) is not approved nor is the new voters’ list finalized.
Meanwhile, Mujib Rahman Rahimi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s spokesman, has vowed that the NUG has the absolute political will to hold elections. He told Salam Watandar that the government is working with the international community and the IEC to decide for the exact date for the elections.
