KABUL (SW) – The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan on Thursday expressed concerns over intense and often confrontational campaign by presidential candidates ahead of official schedule.
Sughra Sadat, program manager at TEFA, told a press conference in this connection that the electoral commission is silent over these violations by the candidates. She urged the Independent Election Commission to take notice and deal sternly with those found guilty of violating the election rules.
Meanwhile, Qasim Elyasi, spokesman for the Independent Election Complaint Commission, vowed stern actions would be taken against the culprits, but only based on documented proof.
However, the TEFA officials claim over the course of 22 days, only 800,000 voters have been registered in 33 provinces, while as the IEC was scheduled to register about 2 million people in this period.
