KABUL (SW): The Transparent Election Foundation (TEFA) has called upon the government to take practical steps towards ensuring timely and transparent elections in the country.
Addressing a presser here on Sunday, TEFA charged the government for mere lip work towards elections.
Mohammad Naeem Ayoubzada, head of TEFA told a joint press conference with representatives of the political parties and civil society activists that the government was merely doing the lip work and doing nothing practically to ensure timely and transparent parliamentary and local council elections.
“We want the government to prioritize the elections, we and the people demand practical steps towards reforms”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Anwarul Haq Ahadi, head of the New National Front party said that the electoral process has become a complicated issue in the country. He vowed to strive for ensuring timely elections.
Meanwhile, Shah Husain Murtazawi, deputy presidential spokesman stressed that the government remains committed in this regard. He said that the Government of National Unity (GNU) has the parliamentary and local council elections in its priority list.
He noted that the Presidential decree in this regard is pending in the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) and as soon as that is approved things would move forward.
