KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on Tuesday inked a deal to ensure payment of salaries via mobile phones to the public school teachers.
Mirwais Balkhi, minister for the MoE, said on the occasion, this move would ensure timely and transparent delivery of salaries to the teachers across the country. The minister said, in the initial phase, the MoE would provide databank of the teachers to the MoCIT for the process.
Shahzad Aryubi, minister for the MoCIT, said on his term, the private contracting firm would be paid a minimal fee for the transfer of salaries to the provinces. He added the idea has been examined for a trial period, and it has proved successful. The ministers said the project would began with a limited number of provinces, and would later be extended nationwide.
Officials hoped this move would also prove useful in countering the presence of ghost teachers in the academic sector. Based on the contract, the Roshan telecommunication firm and the Afghan Wireless telecommunication firms would implement the project.
