KHOST CITY (SW): Hundreds of teachers and administrative staff of public schools in Khost on Tuesday locked down the directorate of education in protest.
The protestors charged that despite repeated assurances, the government has failed to provide them with their due rights of residential plots. As many as 300 teachers and academic staff from ten districts of the province gathered in the provincial capital for the protest.
They charged that some influential people have encroached upon the residential plots awarded to them by the government. Two such protestors, Mohammad Gul and Jan Baz told Salam Watandar that their protest and strike would ultimately harm the future of the students, but they would continue to strive for their rights.
When contacted, Hakeem Khan Habibi, the provincial governor, informed SW that it is the teachers’ right to stand for their demands, but the matter is out of his control and related to higher authorities in the capital Kabul. He pledged to provide necessary and legitimate support to the teachers and academic staff in this regard.
