CHIGHCHIRAN-MAIMANA (SW): The Taywara district of Ghor and Kohistan district of Faryab have fallen to the Taliban on Saturday night.
Ghulam Naser Khazeh, the governor of Ghor, has said that the Taywara district fell to the Taliban as the insurgents attacked the district from different directions on Saturday. According to the governor of the province, at least 800 Taliban insurgents have reached the main bazaar of the district.
“We do not have an exact number of casualties of the security forces or the insurgents. The Security Council meeting is held to retake the district from the insurgents”, informed Khazeh.
Local residents of the district have told Salam Watandar that the Taliban insurgents are using the district residents as a human shield.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim Yurish, Faryab's police spokesman, talking to Salam Watandar said that the Taliban stormed the administrative building of Kohistan district late on Saturday night and captured the main bazaar within 3 hours. "At least 200 security forces including 30 commandos are under the Taliban siege in Khair Abad area of the district. The Taliban have destroyed communication towers and we are unable to contact the besieged security forces", added Yurish.
The locals of Kohistan district have claimed that 7 security outposts have joined Taliban insurgents along with their military equipment in Kohistan district while parts of the district police headquarters have been burnt by the Taliban.
According to the Faryab's police spokesman 2 policemen are killed and 4 more are injured. Zabiuallah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesman, has also confirmed the fall of the districts to the Taliban.
