TAKHAR (SW): The center of Takhar – 'the city of Taliqan', and the Khan Abad district in Kunduz have been without power for more than ten days now.

The residents of the Taliqan city expressed their concern over the lack of electricity and said that the government must launch an operation on Taliban in the Aaq Tash region of Kunduz and restore the electricity supply to the city.

The Taliban have blown-up a pylon transmitting electricity from Tajikistan to Takhar some ten days ago in the Chopan area of Aaq Tash district of Kunduz and have set demands from the government to allow the power supply resumed.

Mohammad Mommand, Director of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) in Takhar said the halt of military operations on Taliban, the distribution of electricity to the areas under the control of the Taliban, the payment of salaries of teachers in cash, and the resumption of several economic projects in Aaq Tash district of Kunduz, are the demands of the Taliban to allow the electricity transmission lines to be reconnected.

Mommand informed that the negotiation with Taliban has failed; however, efforts are underway to reconnect the electricity through other areas.

The tensions between DABS and the Taliban began after the Taliban killed an employee of DABS in Kunduz. Following this incident, the Taliban blown-up a pylon transmitting electricity from Tajikistan to Takhar and Kabul.
