LASHKARGAH (SW) – A US drone strike has killed the Taliban’s shadow governor for Helmand, Mulla Abdul Manan, an official confirmed on Sunday.
Mohammad Yasin, governor of restive southern Helmand province, said the Taliban commander was targeted in the Nauzaad district late on Saturday. According to the local officials, the notorious commander succumbed to his wounds on Sunday.
Mullah Manan was the group’s deputy head of military affairs, and was leading insurgency in Helmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan and a number of other provinces. The slain rebel commander was also responsible for a number of attacks on the security forces.
