PARUN (SW): Akramuddin Sari, the police chief in north eastern Nuristan province has said that as many as 72 Taliban insurgents have been killed and 33 more wounded as they attacked the remote Kamdish district in the province.
The attack took place last night, which was effectively repulsed by the security forces, he said. Speaking to Salam Watandar, the police chief said that the Taliban wanted to overrun the district but they failed as they were also hit by the security forces from the air.
Akramuddin Sari added that 8 foreign rebels are also among the militants who were killed. He added that the clean-up operation was underway.
On the other hand, The Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 201-Selab Corps has said in a statement that 73 insurgents have been killed and 26 more wounded in these offensives. It asserts that no damage has been done to civilians and their property.
In the meantime, the Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack on Kamdish district.
Zabihullah Mujahid, who claims to be Taliban’s spokesperson, has said that 4 of his comrades have been killed and 4 other have been injured in this operation.
