TALEQAN (SW): Ahmad Zia Masoud, the special envoy to President Ghani for reforms and good governance, addressing a gathering attended by the former Jihadi commanders in the northern province Takhar said that they should be ready to fight and defend their country against the militants.
Masoud, who was speaking at the gathering in Taleqan, said that the militants would increase their offensives in a bid to capture Kunduz, Takhar and Badakhshan provinces next summer.
He urged upon the Jihadi commanders to be fully prepared to fight the militants.
He said that if the local commanders were not be prepared for the fighting, Taliban would capture the northeastern provinces.
He added that the peace process has just recently resumed and the countries who are involved in the peace talks process should do enough to bring peace in the country.
Taliban have expanded their influence in north and northeastern provinces.
Local officials said that the militants have a wide influence in Kunduz, Takhar and Badakhshan provinces and are looking for the opportunity to conduct their deadly attacks in the summer.
Former Jihadi commanders have established local up-rising forces since Kunduz collapsed to the militants for three days a few months back.
Earlier, Governor of Takhar, said that the local up-rising forces were worse than the militants.
Amir Piramqul, an influential local commander in Takhar, who also attended the gathering, said that if the government didn’t pay attention to him in terms of supporting him, he would fight both the local government as well as the Taliban.
According to the reports, this commander has more than 1,000 armed men who are based in Rustaq district in Takhar province.
