TALEQAN(SW):Two days ago a girls’ school was burned down in Chashm-e-Shir area in Takhar province.
Sayed Hessamuddin Nazari, Deputy for Education Department in Takhar, told Salam Watandar that Taliban were behind the incident. Located at a distance of some 3 km from Taliqan City, the school was made up of two parts both for girls and boy.
He said that Taliban have distributed warning letters threatening to set on fire all girls’ schools in the province. Sayed Taher, the principal of the school, blamed the militants for the incident. He added that the Taliban were the main culprits behind the incident. He claimed that the Taliban wished to prevent girls from going to school with such acts.
Jamila one of the students in the school, told SalamWatandar that she was not affected by what the militants has done to the school and instead she would keep continuing her lessons even in an open air school.
Khalil Asir, Spokesman for Takhar Police Headquarters however, said that the school was set on fire by unidentified men and that nobody was arrested in connection with the incident yet. He added that the police had no clue about warning letters. He promised that an investigation would soon determine who was behind the incident.
