KABUL (SW): The Taliban have warned the government against executing death-row convict militants in prisons across the country.
Following brazen militant attack in the capital Kabul on 19 April that claimed dozens of lives and left hundreds more wounded, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani announced to expedite the execution of the convicted militants.
In response to this, the Taliban have said in a statement that this announcement ‘holds no legal basis’ because these ‘political prisoners’ are handed the death penalty by the ‘most corrupt and incompetent judicial body in the world’.
It went on to say such actions by the Kabul administration will amount to nothing more than a ‘war crime’ carried out against ‘freedom seeking oppressed and defenseless prisoners’.
The Taliban have warned against these executions and threatened to take revenge. In the message, the rebels have called upon international human right organizations, independent media outlets, ICRC and other free impartial committees to not remain indifferent in using their influence concerning matter of prisoner execution.
Commenting on this, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, Presidential Spokesman, told Salam Watandar that justice would be done in this regard and no one is above the law. He added that the Afghan government is determined to dismantle all terrorist groups.
