KABUL (SW) – The Taliban in Afghanistan on Monday declared the state-run telecom firm Salaam as 'legitimate target for attacks over non-compliance of rules'.
The group said in a social media post that the underground fiber optic lines would be uprooted, all installations of the firm targeted and its staff considered as ‘spies’. The group has blamed Salaam for ‘not obeying rules and regulations’.
It has charged that Salaam shares their internal communications with the U.S. forces.
The Ministry of Interior has dubbed this threat as enmity with the people of Afghanistan. The ministry announced security of all telecom firms would be ensured.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has reiterated that no threats can undermine the operation of Salaam. Faheem Hashimi, minister for the MoCIT, told a press conference that the firm would continue with its operations.
This comes as the Taliban have already disconnected telecom services during evening in a number of provinces.
