Taliban urged to release the captive soldiers

KABUL (SW) – The National Security Council announced here on Saturday there have been no changes in the peace strategy.

In a statement, the National Security Council spokesman, Jawed Faisal demanded the Taliban to release the captive members of the commando forces. “There are no changes to the plan. The Taliban will have to release our commandos held by them before the government resumes the release of the remaining 320 Taliban prisoners. It’s now on the Taliban to take action and help the peace efforts produce the expected outcome”, he tweeted.

He added in the tweet that it was now the Taliban's job to help the peace effort to secure the desired results by releasing the captives of the security forces.

Earlier, presidential spokesman Sediq Sediqqi described the failure of the Taliban to release prisoners of war as an obstacle to negotiations.

This comes the government halted the freeing of Taliban inmates after freeing some 80 of the 400 ‘dangerous’ Taliban charged with serious crimes.
A day earlier, Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman High Council for National Reconciliation, said the intra-Afghan talks with Taliban will begin next week. He said this addressing a moot organized by the Institute of War and Peace Studies in the capital Kabul.
