KABUL (SW) – Mohammad Umer Daudzai, secretary of the High Peace Council, on Saturday urged the Taliban not to hinder public representatives from attending the forthcoming Loya Jirga (grand consultative session) for peace.
Addressing a press conference, Daudzai said the forthcoming LJ would be inclusive with public representatives from across the country attending. He said the Taliban should not stop such representatives form their areas of influence from attending this moot. He added discussions are underway over invitations for the Taliban as well.
Daudzai, who is also head of the LJ organizing committee, said on the occasion members of district and provincial councils, Wolesi Jirga (lower house), civil society, women youth and religious scholars would attend this grand consultative session over peace.
Commenting about the recent trip of Zalmay Khalilzad, he said the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation briefed Afghan officials in Arg (presidential palace) about the talks in Doha, and many ambiguities surrounding these talks were removed. He said government officials and prominent politicians would meet the U.S. envoy again on Sunday in Kabul.
Khalilzad reached Pakistan on Thursday in connection with his diplomatic efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
