MAIMANA (SW): Local authorities have said Taliban insurgents torched down a girl’s school in Pashton-Kot district in Faryab on Thursday night.
Sayed Anwar Sadat, the governor of Faryab, confirming the incident said they received warnings from Taliban insurgent that if the security forces do not stop arresting their fighters in Sar-e-Hawz area the Taliban have plans to cut electricity cables and block the main highway in the province in retaliation. “By torching a girl’s school in the province last night the Taliban once again proved that they are hostile to education and progress of the people”, added Sadat.
The governor of Faryab warning the Taliban insurgents said if they do not stop damaging public properties, the government will wipe them out from the province.
Ghulam Sakhi Bayan, the province director of education, said the torched school of Khawaja Musa had 26 classes for 1560 female students. He added the watchman of the school saw five Taliban insurgents set the school on fire with gasoline late at night. “The reconstruction of the school is highly unlikely to happen any time soon”, worried Bayan.
The Taliban insurgents have not commented on the matter to media yet.
