Taliban suffer heavy casualties in Baghlan, Faryab

PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): Gen. Abdul Jabar Pordeli, Baghlan Police Chief Commander has claimed 31 militants including seven top Taliban commanders have been killed and 46 more have been wounded in the ongoing offensives.

It is vital to note Baghlan borders restive northern Faryab province that too is witnessing a full-blown clean-up operation.

Gen. Pordeli said security forces have made phenomenal progress in their mop-up operation in Dand-e-Ghori area. He added that during the operation, one Afghan National Police (ANP) man got killed and three more got injured.

A Taliban spokesman however, has claimed to have killed more than 40 security men. The recent fighting has also claimed the lives of at least 10 civilians including woman and children.

Hundreds of Baghlan families have evacuated their homes due to the raging conflict.

In neighboring Faaryab province, the security forces said to have captured a strategically important area in the restive Qaisar district.

Mohammad Raza Razai, spokesman for the ANA’s 290 Shaheen Corps said Taliban’s regional hub that was serving as grouping spot for local and foreign militants has been captured. The fighting has eliminated 19 rebels in Khwaja Kenti, Katalang and Bashlmas areas in Qaisar.

He confirmed the death of four security men in the clashes.

Elsewhere, seven armed rebels have been reported dead in the southern Ghazni province. A spokesman for Ghazni 3rd Brigade told SW that the operation was carried out by the Afghan National Army (ANA) in cooperation with the police in Andar, Dehyak and Ab Band districts in Ghazni.
