KABUL (SW) – Head of the Taliban’s Qatar office, Mullah Baradar, has claimed this group ‘succeeded’ on the battlefield as well as in negotiations.
In an audio clip issued by the Taliban’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, the group’s Qatar office leader can be heard saying their negotiation team did not moved back an inch from their stance in line with the ‘Sharia and principles’, and paved way for ultimate solution of the crisis.
Mullah Baradar said the Taliban wish and strive for ‘an Islamic system’ in the country, withdrawal of foreign troops and ‘independence’ of the country. He went on to say the Taliban would treat the people with ‘mercy and patience’ upon coming to power. Baradar stressed the religious scholars and Mujahedeen of Afghanistan would be respected, they need not to worry about fleeing the country, and the neighboring countries should also have no concerns about the Taliban’s rule.
Baradar also advised the Taliban fighters not to become ‘arrogant’ with ‘this success’.
This comes as the Kabul government has made it clear no one would be allowed to undermine the state building process in the country. However, the Taliban sees it as a ‘puppet regime’ established by the U.S. and expressed no interests to hold direct talks with it.
The Afghan government has so far shown no reaction to Baradar’s interview.
