PUL-I-ALAM (SW) – Heavy clashes are underway between the security forces and the Taliban in Logar’s Azara district, officials said on Tuesday.
Shahpur Ahmadzai, spokesman for the police headquarters, said up to 30 rebels and three security forces got killed in these clashes. He said the check posts in the district center and surrounding areas came under assault last night.
Meanwhile, member of the provincial council, Abdul Wali Wakeel, has claimed the district is under the siege of the Taliban for the past 13 days. He went on to claim the NATO troops also targeted the Afghan forces and civilians from the air instead of helping them, killing 15 security forces and five civilians.
A resident of the area, Tawaheed Mal, told Salam Watandar heavy armed clashes are underway, and up to eight security check posts have fallen to the Taliban. He feared if additional troops are not deployed immediately, the district would fell to the rebels.
