KUNDUZ CITY (SW): A local officials in Kunduz province claimed that the Taliban have smuggled U.S. military apparatus captured from the Afghan forces to Russia via Tajikistan.
Naseeruddin Sa’adi, chief of the Dasht-i-Archi district told Salam Watandar that that Taliban have shipped at least four U.S. humvees captured from the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) via the Amu (Oxus) River to Tajikistan in the past three months. The district chief stressed that the Taliban have control over a number of villages here bordering Tajikistan.
We tried to obtain the views of the Russian Embassy in Kabul on this matter but to no avail.
There were reports in the press a few days back that pointed towards contacts between the Russian authorities and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Alexander Mantytskiy, Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan has stated on record that Moscow has contacts with the Taliban but only for the safety of its diplomatic mission in the country.
