Taliban responds to peace offer in a “suitable time”

KABUL (SW): In an effort to bring peace to Afghanistan after several meetings with Taliban locally and internationally, this time the European Union has launched a dialogue under the banner of “Afghanistan Culture, A Peace Culture”.

Abdul Hakim Mujahid, advisor to High Peace Council (HPC) said during this summit that if Taliban respond positively to the Afghan government’s peace deal, all of their demands will be discussed in the peace talks.

According to Mujahid, the Taliban have been discussing the peace deal within themselves and will respond to peace offer in a “suitable time”.

Mujahid added that the HPC has been in contact with the Taliban directly and indirectly and an outcome is expected soon.

Mujahid also informed that the pressure over Taliban from inside and outside the country has proved to be ineffective; however, direct dialogue with them is the solution.

Pierre Mayaudon, the new European Union Head of Delegation to Afghanistan said the Afghan peace plan is extensive, unprecedented and global, and European Union will support this process.

It is now too early to draw a conclusion over the peace deal offered by the Afghan government to the Taliban at Kabul Summit, therefore, Taliban’s silence in this regard should not be assumed a rejection, Mayaudon added.

During his speech, Mayaudon also said that European Union is ready to cooperate and offer advice on the presidential, provincial and district council elections, and have allocated more than 30 million Euros for the upcoming elections in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said at the Tashkent Conference that if the Taliban respond positively to the Afghan government peace deal, they will be removed from the UN blacklist.
