Taliban publicly lash men on burglary charges in Ghazni

18/12/2015

GHAZNI CITY (SW): According to a video received by Salam Watandar from the residents of Mangor in southern Ghazni province, the Taliban can been seen publicly lashing three men on burglary charges.

At the beginning of the recorded video, it shows that the people of that village and hundreds of Taliban militants are surrounding the three accused. Then they are listening to a man deliver a speech and then the militants lay the victims on the ground and lash them. Salam Watandar however, could not independently verify the date and authenticity of the video.

According to the decree read by Taliban leader at the scene, the crime of the victims was burglary and defying performing daily prayers. The Taliban have warned the people in this part of the country that the Taliban’s “Islamic Emirate” is intact and would not spare anyone defying its rules.

It is vital to note that during the Taliban rule in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, their moral police would round-up and beat anyone on the spot found guilty of not performing prayers or not obeying other rules imposed by the militants.

In this particular video, people can also be seen chanting slogans like “Allah Akbar” and “Long live the Islamic Emirate, long live Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour”.

The provincial authorities declined to comment on the matter. Mangor lies on a distance of some 400 kilo meters from the provincial capital Ghazni city and is said to be under the heavy influence of the Taliban.
