CHGHCHIRAN (SW): The Taliban sentenced 1 woman and 3 men of a family to public lashing in an informal justice hearing in Ghor province.

Abdul Rahman Atshan, provincial council member, told Salam Watandar the family was travelling to Feroz Koh district for a formal court hearing on a domestic issue when they were abducted by the Taliban and taken to Shindand district of Herat.

“Previously, the family had visited family court in Feroz Koh for a civil matter, in which court had passed a judgment in favor of the husband who allegedly has ties with the Taliban militants. The court’s judgment was not acceptable to the women’s family, and they were travelling to file an appeal”, added Atshan.

The provincial council member claims that each member of the family was sentenced to 70 lashes. The militants intend to send them back to their home after the execution of the informal justice, he added.

Provincial authorities have confirmed the abduction of the family, but expressed unawareness about the public lashing.
