Taliban plant mines to avoid ASF night raids

KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Residents of Kunduz city have said that the Taliban have planted landmines in a number of streets in a bid to avoid night raids by the Afghan Special Forces (ASF).

Residents complain that from 8 pm to 6 am in the morning, they cannot leave their homes even if they have urgent needs. Resident of Alchin area in the Chahar Deh district told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have warned the locals against coming out of their homes in the evening. According the residents, a number of children have got injured due to these mines.

AmarudinWali, chairman of the provincial council also expressed that Taliban cover more than 70 percent of the province with mines at nights. He lamented that with such moves the Taliban have spread fear among the locals and have confined them to their homes.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Qasim Jangal Bagh, provincial police chief while confirming the issue, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have also planted mines on the roof tops of homes in order to avoid night raids by ASF. He however, assured that soon the remaining areas under the Taliban’s influence would be cleared.
