MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban insurgents overran Qarghan district in Faryab province, an official said on Wednesday.
Ibrahim Tayanmas, district governor, told Salam Watandar the Taliban staged large-scale coordinated attack on the district last night, and overran the district administrative compound.
He confirmed 2 security forces and 4 Taliban insurgents got killed in clashes while four security forces and four insurgents got injured.
In the meantime, member of the provincial council, Aq Mohammad Noori, said additional troops have been sent to the area to take on the insurgents.
It is important to note that Qarghan is administered from neighboring Andkhoy district due to security concerns.
